The New Hung Hom Promenade Art & Performance Space recently hosted the Waterfront Sketching Competition, which drew more than 120 participants ranging from primary‑school students to elderly residents. Contestants selected scenic spots around the promenade and performance venue, depicting views of Victoria Harbour, passing vessels and members of the public at leisure using mediums such as watercolour, sketch and poster colour.
The competition was divided into an Open Category and a Youth Category, with renowned local artists serving as judges. The judging panel commented that many entries demonstrated creativity in composition and colour handling, successfully capturing the unique light‑and‑shadow effects of the waterfront and reflecting participants’ careful observations of the community. Winning works will be displayed to the public for one month in the exhibition gallery at the performance space.
The organiser hopes the sketching competition will encourage the public to slow down and appreciate local scenery, while raising awareness of the art‑and‑performance venue. It plans to regularise sketching events in future, with themes aligned to different seasons and festivals, so as to integrate art into people’s daily lives.
